Terms: This is a permanent, part time job

Salary: will be negotiated and depends on the skills and experience of the applicant.

Education: The applicant should have completed high school.

Experience: two to three years’ experience.

Credentials required: The applicant should have Driver’s Licence (Class 1 or A), Air Brake (Z) Endorsement, Air Brake Adjustment Certificate.

Type of Trucking and Equipment: Tractor-trailer, Flatbed, Van

Type of Travel: Long-haul, Provincial/territorial

Documentation Knowledge: Driver logbook, Bill of lading, Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip), Maintenance and repair reports, Trip reports, Accident or incident reports

Communication Equipment Experience: Citizens band (CB) radio, Cellular phone

Weight Handling: Up to 45 kg (100 lbs)

Specific Skills: Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials, Loading and unloading of goods, Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo, Plan travel schedules and routes, Use atlases and other trip planning aids, Receive and relay information to central dispatcher, Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment, Perform brake adjustments, Monitor vehicle performance and mechanical fitness, Perform preventive maintenance, Perform emergency roadside repairs

Additional Skills: Mountain driving expertise, Professionalism in customer service, Handle inquiries from customers

Security and Safety: Driving record check (abstract), Medical exam, Drug test

Own Tools/Equipment: Steel-toed safety boots

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Physically demanding

Transportation/Travel Information: Willing to travel for extended periods, Willing to travel overnight, Valid driver’s licence, Travel expenses paid by employer

Other Information: Class1 driver part time 2-3 days/week Langley to Alberta. Hiab crane exp. required. Highway & mountain exp. req. Clean driving record req (pending hiring). Great opportunity for semi retired person.
